Certified Nursing Assistant - Mill Street Residence - Casual Hours (63823)

The purpose of this position is to provide our tenants with assistance with their activities of daily living (ADL’s) and personal care.  The Home CNA works under the direction and supervision of the Home Care Coordinator/RN. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are a priority in this position.  The incumbent has limited access to confidential information and must be able to maintain confidences.  The incumbent completes the work procedures and priorities within imposed time frames.

Compensation:
Hourly Wage Range: $18.28 - $25.20 Please note that final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications and internal equity considerations.

1.       Education / Licensing: CNA certification, High School diploma or GED preferred.  Home Care Aide Certificate, 75-hour course and/or successful completion of competency evaluation is required.  Incumbent must also complete the medication administration class or have completed a TMA class with demonstrated competency.

2.       Work Experience/Knowledge:  A minimum of one-year experience as a CNA or Home Care Aide in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or home care agency preferred; home health care experience preferred. 

3.       Abilities:  Should possess good intervention techniques, effective communication skills, problem solving and decision-making capabilities, and the ability to solicit cooperation.  Must have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform simple personal care services for the client under the supervision of the RN. Ability to make meaningful observations and write simple reports.  Ability to accept and constructively use supervision. Ability to communicate effectively in dealing with clients, families, and co-workers. Patience, tact, enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards the elderly is essential.

4.       Physical Demands:  Exerts up to up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently to push, pull or otherwise move objects. The incumbent will stand 3 hours, walk 4 hours and sit for 1 hour during an average 8-hour work day. Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting.  Must be able to carry out repetitive motions, moving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.  Ability to grasp and feel (perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly of fingertips) is essential.  In addition, the incumbent must be able to talk and express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.  Ability to hear and receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound is essential.
