The University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy & Practice (SP2) seeks a visionary researcher, educator, and leader to serve as the Joanne and Raymond Welsh Chair of Child and Family Wellbeing. In line with the school’s core values of social innovation, impact, and social justice, the search for this tenured, full-professor position is directed towards candidates whose scholarship forges innovative pathways to improve the wellbeing of children and families across systems of intervention and axes of inequality.

The applicant selected as the Welsh Chair will have a record of significant scholarly accomplishments with national and international recognition within the broad arena of child and family wellbeing. Given its historic commitment to the principles of social justice, the school is particularly interested in candidates whose scholarship utilizes critical approaches to examining social policies, systems, institutions, and practices affecting children and families from historically marginalized communities.

A distinguished portfolio of teaching, service, and leadership is expected. As a senior member of the faculty, the Welsh Chair will provide leadership within the school and the University. As a representative of both, the Welsh Chair will be relied upon to forge productive collaborations with individuals, groups, and organizations in relevant local, national, and international arenas.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A Ph.D. in Social Work or Social Welfare or a related/relevant field (e.g., public health, education, sociology, psychology, law, gender studies, ethnic studies).
• Academic accomplishments appropriate for tenured appointment at the rank of full professor at the University of Pennsylvania.
• A career history of excellence in teaching, mentorship, service, and leadership appropriate to an appointment at the rank of full professor at the University of Pennsylvania.
• A commitment to social justice demonstrated in scholarship, teaching, and service.
• A progressive track record of external funding is preferred.

The School of Social Policy & Practice (SP2) is an intellectual community commited to anti-racism, anti-oppression, intersectionality, and social justice in its approaches to research, teaching, and service. SP2 offers five degree programs: Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Science in Social Policy (MSSP/MSSP Data Analytics), Master of Science in Nonprofit Leadership (NPL), Doctorate in Clinical Social Work (DSW), and PhD in Social Welfare.
