Basic Function

The Lab Technician position at Bayport Polymers will perform daily verification standards on equipment and instrumentation, log results on control charts and troubleshoot then take action based on guidelines. Bayport Polymers is a petrochemicals manufacturing site located in Pasadena, TX. As a critical member of site operations and quality, Lab Technicians will perform samples run, preparation/blending, according to the test methods and recheck according to the laboratory SOPs. Additionally, you will be responsible for evaluating and interpreting results for accuracy in support of production, recording results in LIMS as well as maintain equipment and instrumentation by performing minor maintenance.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Receive, log and label all incoming chemicals in the laboratory 
• Wash and dry all lab glassware, transfer full broken glass containers to holding area and dispose of waste solvents. 
• Prepare hazardous waste drums for transfer and issue transfer ticket
• Prepare weekly/monthly American Analytical Environmental samples
• Store and discard all samples
• Report monthly on solvent inventory and every 2 weeks on supply inventory
• Safely operate fork truck for loading, moving and dumping
• Deliver completed worksheets to administration building
• Replace glass cylinders as needed
• Improve housekeeping continuously in his/her work areas (equipment, counters, floors etc) 
• Issue Safe Work permit as needed
• Participate in monthly safety lab inspections
• Participate in internal/external quality audits
• Propose quality and safety improvements for his/her work area

Min. Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Chemistry/related fields OR a minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience in a lab & quality control environment 
• Ability to work a Dupont shift schedule 

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 5 years experience as a Laboratory Technician in a petrochemical manufacturing site laboratory environment
• Polymers testing experience
