Associate Underwriter

Job Summary: The Associate Underwriter position is responsible for providing support, clerical administration, and underwriting assistance to the underwriting business unit.

Major Accountabilities:

  1. Accept, decline or modify offerings submitted by producers.
  2. Responsible for agency management within assigned territory including developing action plans for achieving individual agency objectives.
  3. Prepare underwriting reports for higher level authority determinations.
  4. Establish and maintain diary system to ensure appropriate underwriting throughout a policy term.
  5. Assist with mid-term policy reviews.
  6. Communicate with agents to obtain additional information regarding risks and support agent needs as necessary.
  7. Confirm all new and renewal policies in accordance with written department procedures.
  8. Examine loss experience and production of producers within assigned authority and take appropriate actions.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required. Insurance industry/Underwriting experience preferred. 

Experience/Specialized Skills:  Intermediate computer skills (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, Internet, e-mail) required.

Special Considerations

Physical Requirements: Constant use of vision, hearing, and communication (oral and written in person and via telephone).  Frequent concentration, standing, walking, handling, reaching, and grasping.  Occasional bending, kneeling and lifting (up to 25 lbs.).  Heavy use of computer and office equipment.

Additional Requirements:  Occasional travel may be required.  Periodic work outside of standard business hours or on weekends may be required.
