Overview
Worthington Steel is hiring a Summer Intern for our Outside Processing (OSP) Steel Team! Worthington Steel’s Summer Internship Program is a 12-week program beginning at the end of May and running through early August.
This role offers hands-on experience within our supply chain organization, supporting the coordination and management of steel orders processed through outside vendors. The intern will gain real-world exposure to steel processing, order management, and supply chain execution while contributing to meaningful, business-impacting work.
Interns are expected to work onsite at our Columbus, Ohio headquarters at least three days per week. Worthington Steel is not responsible for providing supplemental housing.
What You’ll Do
The Outside Processing Intern will assist OSP Coordinators with daily operational tasks involved in overseeing order management — from the time steel arrives at an outside processor through processing and shipment to the end customer.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting order management activities across multiple outside processing partners
- Monitoring and analyzing on-time delivery (OTD) metrics
- Assisting with billing and invoicing processes
- Helping update and communicate lead times
- Validating and auditing analytics dashboards for accuracy
- Assisting with quarterly inventory reconciliations and audits
- Supporting Accounts Payable (AP) validation activities
- Updating and improving onboarding and training documentation
- Identifying process gaps and recommending improvements through data analysis
Throughout the summer, interns will work closely with multiple areas of the supply chain, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how orders flow through outside processors and ultimately to customers.
At the conclusion of the program, each intern will present a project to an audience that may include managers, peers, and executive leadership.
Program Experience
In addition to hands-on work experience, interns will:
- Participate in professional development classes covering topics such as business etiquette, resume writing, interviewing skills, and presenting with confidence
- Build their professional network across the organization
- Collaborate with fellow interns throughout the summer
- Participate in a community service event in keeping with Our Philosophy
What We’re Looking For
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (experience with data analytics tools is a plus)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Interest in supply chain operations and steel processing
