Join our Packaging Engineering team at Raytheon, where you'll design safe, ergonomic, and innovative custom packaging solutions that enhance our manufacturing process, material handling, and product delivery.
As a Packaging Engineer, you will develop and maintain detailed packaging instructions for various components and products like radars and antenna assemblies. Utilize cutting-edge computer-aided design (CAD) technology to create 3D models and technical drawings. Manage all aspects of design, documentation, procurement, and integration of packaging solutions in a complex manufacturing environment. Oversee projects from conception through implementation, ensuring safety, ergonomics, and error-proofing are at the forefront.

What You Will Do:
- Develop Packaging Solutions: Create 3-dimensional packaging designs using CREO software.
- Collaborate with Teams: Effectively communicate packaging concepts to manufacturing and factory teams.
- Identify Improvement Opportunities: Seek and propose enhancements within our factory processes.
- Interpret Engineering Drawings: Read and understand mechanical engineering drawings to inform packaging designs.
- Error-Proofing Designs: Establish designs with a focus on incorporating robust error-proofing techniques.
- Integrate COTS Components: Utilize commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components to enhance design usability and cost efficiency.
- Adjust Designs: Modify designs as needed to meet the requirements and feedback from stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot and Analyze: Diagnose design flaws and production issues, and develop solutions.
- Brainstorm Solutions: Gather problem details and collaboratively brainstorm potential solutions.
- Follow Guidelines: Adhere to established guidelines for drawing layouts and release procedures.
- Mechanical Engineering Aptitude: Apply strong mechanical engineering and analytical skills to packaging designs.
- Document Instructions: Develop, document, and maintain detailed special packaging instructions.
- Interpret Standards: Understand and apply numerous ASTM and Military Standards in packaging designs.
- Support Factory Initiatives: Provide packaging engineering support for various factory initiatives.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Requires a Bachelor’s in Packaging Engineering/Science or related STEM field
- Experience/education with computer aided drafting (CAD) modeling
- This position requires 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).
- The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Technical writing experience
- Experience/education with drawing interpretation
- Previous packaging design experience
- Factory integration experience
- Additive manufacturing experience
- Experience evaluating a request/issue and conceptualizing an innovative packaging solution.
- Strong knowledge of and experience in Microsoft Office tools
- Experience with CFR-49 Hazardous material transportation regulation.
- Experience in use of military standards, MIL-STD-2073, Mil-STD -129
