Job Overview
Location/Schedule: This position is based out of the Kerns Building in NE Portland, OR. This is an on-call/per diem position for all shifts. Employees must work a minimum of 6 shifts per quarter.

Description: The Project Respond Crisis Team Peer Specialist provides mobile crisis support throughout Multnomah County, working closely with clinicians to support individuals in mental health crises. Using their lived experience and peer training, the Peer Specialist engages in de-escalation, advocacy, and support, promoting stability and well-being within the community. This position works collaboratively with local agencies, including mental health and physical health providers, emergency services, and social service agencies, delivering services from a trauma-informed, strength-based approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide immediate mobile response to individuals in mental health crises.
- Offer peer support, advocacy, and guidance through recovery, assisting with community resource connection.
- Coordinate crisis responses with community agencies, including law enforcement, when necessary.
- Act as a positive role model and demonstrate recovery-oriented practices.
- Document interactions and maintain compliance with agency policies and federal regulations.
- Engage in culturally responsive services and support community inclusion.
Qualifications
- Peer Support Specialist (PSS): Completion of Peer Support training approved by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA).
- Peer Wellness Specialist (PWS): Completion of Peer Wellness training approved by the OHA.
- Traditional Healthcare Worker (THW) certification required.
- Personal experience with recovery and as a user of behavioral health services.
- Experience working with adults experiencing severe mental health challenges and with diverse communities is preferred.
- Proficiency with computers and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
