The Aerospace Corporation is hiring a Graduate-level X-ray Tomography Intern for an opportunity located in El Segundo, CA.  


The qualified candidate will become part of the Microelectronic Technology Department and work in the electronic materials and devices group to support investigations of microelectronics reliability and physics of failure by x-ray tomography and other non-destructive techniques. 

Work Model:

This position will be located 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA

What You’ll Be Doing 

  • Conduct innovative basic and applied research in non-destructive fault isolation and reverse engineering of electronic devices

  • Develop tools for data and image analysis

  • Collect and interpret x-ray tomography data

  • Provide responsive technical support to national security space programs on problems

  • Present results internally and at scientific meetings

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical personnel via oral and written forms

What You Need to be Successful 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Currently enrolled fulltime in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Master's of PhD degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or material science or related discipline  

  • Senior class standing, or undergraduate degree completed by internship start date 

  • Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a degree program full-time after completion of the internship.

  • Understanding of x-ray imaging and tomogram reconstruction

  • Understanding of computational analysis techniques for image and tomography analysis

  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

  • Transcripts are required

How You Can Stand Out  

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: 

  • Experience with Volume Graphics, Avizo, dragonfly or other tomography software packages.

  • Experience with additive manufacturing and electronic device packaging and fabrication

  • Knowledge of electronic device packaging and fabrication

  • Proficient in MATLAB, C/C++, and/or Python

We offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business.  The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below.  Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$30.00 - $35.00 - $42.00

Pay Basis: Hourly
