Responsibilities

The Patient Observer remains in close physical proximity and visual contact with assigned patient(s) whose behavior puts them at risk to harm themselves or others, including if they decide to leave against medical advice.

 

1. Identifies themselves to the patient at time of arrival and introduces a new Observer at time of shift change or upon preparation for transport to different treatment area.2. Stays with an assigned patient at all times and maintains communication in order to ensure that the patient doesn't attempt any harmful actions.3. Waits just outside the door of the assigned patient's room while physician or other staff, conduct private exams.4. Ensures the removal of any potentially hazardous objects from the assigned patient's room. Educates the assigned patient of why the items are being removed.5. If assigned patient displays any harmful behavior, the Observer will physically intervene, if able to do safely, and call for immediate assistance.6. If assigned patient attempts to leave the unit, the Observer will attempt to verbally stop the individual and then call for assistance from the nurse, attending physician or security.7. Completes continuous observation/restraint documentation as required.8. Answers call lights and responds to assigned patient needs accordingly or communicates patient needs to appropriate member of the healthcare team.9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education• High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) or Completion of a CMC Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required• Currently enrolled in or previously completed healthcare coursework preferred

 

Experience• 3 months of experience in a healthcare environment preferred

 

Licenses and Certifications• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required
