Jefferson County, located in Golden, Colorado, seeks an experienced attorney to perform a variety of complex transactional and occasional litigation work. The transactional work may include representation of boards and commissions for the County Attorney's Office. The attorney will support a variety of transactional work for various County divisions and elected officials, such as reviewing and drafting contracts. The transactional work may include grants, leases, license agreements, construction contracts, consulting contracts, real estate purchase and sale agreements, deeds, easements, and SaaS agreements. It may also include a variety of substantive areas such as human services, IT, environmental health, land use, human resources, road and bridge, transportation, and other county operations transactional support. Additionally, this attorney may provide zoning enforcement and tax appeal support to the litigation operations team.
The Jefferson County Attorney’s Office consists of just over 40 attorneys and staff members who work collaboratively to provide a full range of legal services to Jefferson County. This position will report to the transactions deputy but will perform both transactional and litigation duties in a technologically advanced, sophisticated, and collegial work environment. The County Attorney’s Office provides flexibility in creating a hybrid work schedule, with both in-office and remote work opportunities that promote work-life balance.
Depending on qualifications, this position may be hired as an Assistant County Attorney at the Staff or Associate level. The Staff position is an entry-level attorney position. The Associate position will typically assist other attorneys in making decisions regarding their workflow, and interactions at the Associate level are typically concerned with providing communications at levels of organizational operations and may utilize activities such as evaluating customer satisfaction, developing cooperative associations, and allocating resources to improve work operations, work quality, overall achievement of organizational goals and objectives, and customer satisfaction.
SCHEDULE:
This position has the potential to operate on a four-day, 40-hour work week (Monday-Thursday) or a standard work week (Monday-Friday). This position also offers the opportunity for remote work on some days of the week.
COMPENSATION:
The anticipated hiring range at Staff level is $99,000.00 - $113,000.00 USD Annual
The anticipated hiring range at Associate level is $116,000.00 - $140,000.00 USD Annual
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills, as well as Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and budgetary considerations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- The position is a blended role and will perform duties for the transactional and litigation teams in the County Attorney’s Office.
- The work involves drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of contracts, grants licenses, intergovernmental agreements, leases, and other related documents. It will also include representing various boards and commissions and providing general legal advice to County staff and elected officials. The work also includes litigation support, particularly for zoning enforcement matters and tax appeals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- JD or LLB from an accredited law school
- Three (3) years minimum of transactional or contract work experience
- Licensed to practice law in Colorado and in good standing with the Colorado Supreme Court
- A writing sample is required and must be attached in order to be considered for employment. Appellate writing samples are preferred.
