Arlington County is seeking an individual to support the Deputy Director of Elections during the November 4, 2025, Gubernatorial Election. This position will last approximately 2 months, starting in mid-September and ending in mid-November.  

 

Are you ready to help our community? Each fall Arlington 700 residents help support elections by serving as a poll worker.  This position plays a key role in assisting the Deputy Director of Elections with hiring, training, and staffing all poll workers for election day. A friendly and outgoing personality a must; volunteer management experience preferred. Will be required to attend and assist with some evening and weekend training classes. This position is expected to assist with other office tasks as needed. 

Specific duties include:

  • Proofing and testing poll worker training and reference materials;
  • Assisting with processing hiring paperwork and preparing payroll;
  • Answering questions from poll workers by phone, via email, and in person;
  • Helping maintain poll worker assignments for election day; and
  • Assisting with in-person training sessions.

 

The successful candidate should be organized and detail oriented with flexibility and willingness to work evening and weekend hours.  

Minimum Qualifications:  High School diploma or equivalent.  

 

Special Requirements: Must be registered to vote in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  

 

Desirable: Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Basic computer proficiency required; 

  • Prior or current data entry, database, and election experience is extremely helpful; and

  • Proven customer service skills and familiarity with phone etiquette. 

 

Background Check:A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, polygraph examination and credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. 

 

Additional Information 

Work Hours: Applicants should be available for a minimum of 16 hours/ week.  Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexible work schedule and telework opportunities available upon prior supervisor approval. Hours are variable and will increase closer to the election, including some evening and weekend hours.  Applicants must be available to work on Election Day, November 4 from 5:30 AM until 10 PM.

 

Duration: The positions will last approximately 2 months, starting in mid-September and ending in mid-November.  

 

Job Location: 2100 Clarendon Blvd, Arlington *METRO-accessible* Some training sessions will take place at Central Library and Fairlington Community Center. 

 

Remote work (telework) is available for this position. This is not a fully remote position. 

Employees are responsible for their own transportation, including parking costs at Courthouse Plaza.
