Job Description
The primary responsibility of the data architect is to help design and visualize our data management strategy and framework. The data architect’s mission is to help provide technical guidance for providing our associates with trusted data that is easy to access, understand, and derive value from, while simplifying and streamlining the data ingestion, storage, curation, and visualization process. The role requires forward thinking with a focus on transforming existing incumbent solutions into sustainable and scalable solutions on modern cloud technology.
The data architect will play an active role facilitating the adoption of modern data standards and best practices within our digital and technology organization. They will also work closely with our Data Management, DevOps, and Analytics Management teams to ensure we are implementing consistent and reusable design patterns for efficiently moving, transforming, and storing data to serve all analytical purposes, from operational and BI reporting to predictive and prescriptive analytics.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Team up with our engineering and enterprise architecture teams to define and create development principles, standards, and design patterns related to metadata management, data integration, data storage, data security, data modeling, data quality, and data access control
- Incrementally improve our complex technology portfolio to help transition our technical footprint into a cloud-native, centrally managed, and globally distributed data architecture
- Promote best practice and provide guidance to our Data Management, DevOps, Analytics Management, and Data Science teams to facilitate the buildout of data products that drive business value
- Support the migration of 1000+ integrations and data pipelines from diverse on-prem technologies to cloud-based integration tools and technology
- Collaborate with project portfolio management, business teams, and technology teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications
- Partner with the engineering and business teams to serve as an evangelist in promoting the use of event streams, cloud-based data solutions, Data Ownership, Data Stewardship, and self-service
- Develop data architecture designs to improve knowledge sharing across the team and ease the onboarding and training of new team members
- Build Up and mentor associate team members
- Identify emerging technology trends in the data space and promote adoption, when appropriate, to continuously improve business agility, value, and cost effectiveness in our solutions
- Able to manage a team using a diverse environment of data and integration tools and platforms, along with driving modern data and integration transformation. This includes incumbent portfolio investments (DataStage, Hadoop, Netezza, OBIEE, Tableau, Globalscape) to event driven architecture (Kafka) and modern cloud data architecture (Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Power BI)
- Ability to prioritize personal and team responsibilities to meet organizational objectives
- Drive the necessary cultural changes to enable self-service and a continuous delivery model, with a strong focus on automation and agile delivery methods
- Willingness to learn new things and adapt quickly to a team and enterprise undergoing positive transformation and growth
- High interpersonal skills to operate in a large, distributed, and diverse global technology team
- Success working as a data architect in a large enterprise organization
- Ability to foster a sense of purpose among the team and create a culture of transparency with clear accountabilities and metrics
What Do You Need To Bring?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 7-15 years of experience in various roles of technical leadership within a large-scale organization
- Personal Attributes: self-starter, collaborative, curious, strong work ethic, highly motivated, embraces change
- Experience architecting and building data platforms (data lakes, data warehouses, data marts, etc.) and integrations in a complex environment
- Experience integrating with event streams
- Experience with ingesting and storing data in Azure, Snowflake, and Power BI
- Kafka and Databricks experience is a plus
- Strong background in managing data flows and data warehousing
- Experience with any API management tool and/or REST interfaces is preferred
