Job Description

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Transportation Planner to provide in-house consulting services with Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, a leading toll agency in the country, is part of the Florida Department of Transportation and consists of over 500 miles of limited access roadways across the State of Florida. You could be part of a dynamic team, working on a wide variety of high-profile projects. You would have opportunities to bring original ideas to the table on our plans and process and be on the forefront of planning and design that supports the future of transportation in the state of Florida. The candidate will be part of the Turnpike’s Intermodal Systems Development group, in charge of a variety of Turnpike planning projects and studies, providing technical expertise in the general areas of transportation planning, project feasibility evaluations, and master planning.
As a senior transportation planner, you will be expected to execute project management assignments largely with independence, using judgment in making appropriate adaptations and modifications. The candidate may also be required to carry out complex or novel assignments or research requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
Job Summary
- Develops work scopes, schedules, and budgets for transportation planning projects;
- Oversees project study contributions of multi-disciplinary specialists in traffic engineering/planning, travel demand modeling, geographic information systems, and financial analysis, among others;
- Leads preparation of documentation for projects managed, including Technical Memoranda, Project Feasibility Reports, Documentation, and / or parts of Traffic and Revenue Studies;
- Conducts planning analysis of existing and future year land use including GIS analysis on land use development patterns and forecasts;
- Leads preparation and presentation of briefings of transportation project study results for clients, stakeholders, and other interested parties;
- Routinely summarizes transportation project study progress reports for clients;
- Directs field data acquisition, site investigations and surveys;
- Evaluates transportation systems, roadway level of service, and forecasts of future transportation needs;
- Defines, researches, reviews and reports on regional and local transportation planning issues and priorities;
- Leads, participates and provides support for public meetings or hearings to explain planning items and projects, to gather feedback from those affected by projects, or to achieve consensus on project designs;
- Evaluates transportation-related consequences of federal and state legislative proposals and conducts policy analysis;
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in engineering, planning, public policy, or related field.
- Master’s degree in a related discipline can substitute for up to two years of work experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a Transportation Planner or Transportation Engineer, including experience as Project/Task Manager for transportation planning/engineering projects;
- Experience with management of studies in transportation planning, transportation engineering, and corridor studies;
- Familiarity with Florida planning and growth management processes
- Experience with ESRI Arc Map GIS, GIS Pro preferred;
- One or more of the following certifications: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP); Professional Engineer (PE); Professional Transportation Planner (PTP)
- Excellent technical writing abilities, public speaking and presentation skills
