Internal Medicine & Pediatrics Primary Care - North Durham
Job Summary
Provide a full spectrum of primary and acute care to both adult and pediatric patients; conduct histories and physicals; order and interpret laboratory studies; perform basic outpatient procedures; and provide direct patient care services.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Expected to work independently seeing already established internal medicine and pediatric patients within the practice, and has the option in building/managing a panel of patients across the age spectrum while meeting needs of the practice
- Will have 8 four-hour clinical sessions a week.
- Work Saturday and evening clinics in addition to weekday responsibilities, consistent with other practice members.
- Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and plan assessments for patients based on age and medical issues.
- Expected to be well versed in health care maintenance guidelines for all ages, including but not limited to vaccinations, anticipatory guidance, cancer screening and cardiovascular risk assessments
- Be able to prescribe medication and recommend procedures as needed
- Coordinate care for patients
- Write notes in Epic for each patient seen and have them closed within 3 business days.
- Order laboratory and radiologic studies as needed; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic studies to the patient.
- Be able to interpret studies and explain results to patients in a timely manner.
- Be able to see medically complex children and adults and be able to coordinate care as needed with specialists, therapists, and home health companies
- Be able to fill out forms for school, home health agencies, insurance companies, and therapists
- Complete office procedures such as minor skin procedures, joint injections, etc. If interested, may be involved with procedures, such as ear piercing, Nexplanon insertion
- Help create effective systems and protocols to enhance the clinic’s operations as needed
- Take part in practice’s conferences, Division meetings, and CMEs
- Regularly participate in various relevant educational programs to ensure both technical and professional competence are maintained.
