POSITION TYPE:                              Service

 

ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT:               The West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (WVSDB)

 

LOCATION:                                       Romney, West Virginia

 

Under immediate supervision - performs tasks, including but not limited to upgrading electrical services (both high and low voltage) in the schools and various buildings on WVSDB campus; installing lighting, electrical devices, equipment, and systems; repairing lighting, electrical devices, equipment, and systems; maintaining lighting and back-up power sources; procuring parts and materials needed to complete job; and maintaining records of time and materials to complete job orders.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Will adhere to WVDE Policy 5902 – "Employee Code of Conduct" and the applicable WVSDB personnel policies for employee performance. 

    • Observes safety precautions in carrying out assigned duties.
  • Carries and operates communication devices with established notification procedures, as requested.
  • Performs preventative and routine repairs to existing high voltage (i.e. 480, 277) and low voltage electrical systems/equipment on campus.
  • Installs electrical systems (e.g., underground electrical conduit, fire alarms, switchboards, audio-visual alarms, etc.) for the purpose of providing updated, enhanced, and/or upgraded electrical capabilities.
  • Performs assigned tasks under limited, indirect supervision for the purpose of completing electrical installations and repairs.
  • Performs work at heights of up to 60 feet using extension ladder, hydraulic lift, or scaffolding for the purpose of completing projects at heights not able to be reached when standing on the ground.
  • Repairs electrical systems (including communication systems, overloads, lighting fixtures, HVAC systems, shop equipment, washer/dryers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper, safe operation of equipment.
  • Repairs low-voltage systems with voltage range of 10 - 120 volts (e.g., intercoms, door locks, cameras, etc.) for the purpose of completing electrical repairs and installations.
  • Repairs various items, systems, and components for the purpose of ensuring items are available and in safe, working condition.
  • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Transports various items (e.g., tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
  • Conducts inventory of air conditioning, electrical and other materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains records and makes reports based on electrical supplies inventory.
  • Performs grounds maintenance or other general maintenance duties when assigned.
    • Assists with snow and ice removal operations on roadways and sidewalks so they can be made safe as soon as possible, which includes callouts after normal working hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or superintendent.

 

WV Code 18A-4-8:

 "General maintenance" means a person employed as a helper to skilled maintenance employees, and to perform minor repairs to equipment and buildings.

 

"Electrician II" means a person employed as an electrician journeyman or one who holds a journeyman electrician license issued by the State Fire Marshal.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

     Possesses High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5.

  • Meets the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test), as required. 

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10.

  • Must have the ability to install and maintain three-phase, high voltage wiring, transformers, breakers, light fixtures, etc.
