Position Summary:

The Operations Engineer I is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems at a prestigious educational institution in the Los Angeles area. This role ensures that all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The engineer will collaborate with both internal teams and client stakeholders to support daily operations and long-term facility goals.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related technical field, or five (5) years of equivalent engineering experience
  • Valid, unexpired driver’s license
  • Engineering license in the applicable state, county, or city jurisdiction

Preferred Qualifications:

  • With a Bachelor’s degree: 3 years of prior engineering experience preferred
  • Without a Bachelor’s degree: 7 years of prior engineering experience preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems
  • Operate and monitor equipment such as boilers, chillers, air compressors, pumps, and ventilation systems
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with UCLA facility teams and ABM colleagues to resolve technical issues and recommend improvements
  • Analyze system performance and troubleshoot operational issues
  • Review and implement service bulletins and manufacturer updates
  • Develop and execute maintenance programs and project plans
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and minimal downtime
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and system performance
