Job Description Summary

Provide initial risk assessment of inmates processed through jail facility. Review current charges, criminal history, discipline issues and conduct extensive interview to complete assessment instrument. Responsible for assignment of inmates in appropriate housing units based upon custody levels, safety, and security of facility. Complete initial suicide and mental health screening and makes appropriate referral to counseling unit. Process inmates for the facility trusty worker program

Job Description

  • Prepare paperwork necessary to complete a thorough investigation of each individual arrested and processed through the Weld County Jail.
  • Review and document outcome of all criminal charges found on NCIC/CCIC, FBI background checks. Access Colorado Courts to review court sentencing and dispositions of individual criminal charges.
  • Conduct extensive screening interview for assignment in appropriate housing unit. Complete and process classification instrument for relevant custody level. Complete initial suicide and mental health screening, making appropriate referral to counseling unit. Determine and addresses any safety issues an individual may have in the facility.
  • Consult with Inmate Services Director in managing custody level of all inmates, facility housing and placement of inmates.
  • Consult with counseling staff for ongoing assessment and follow-up.
  • Generate daily move list based upon classification level, safety, and security of facility and individual.
  • Routinely reassesses inmate classification for appropriate placement by reviewing criminal history, current charges, discipline issues and participation in programs. Consult with security and counseling staff to identify problem areas and determine movement to other housing unit. Conduct interview with inmate to assess needs.
  • Compile and prepare statistical reports to evaluate validity and reliability of Objective Jail Classification system and analyze the impact or success of the Objective Jail Classification system with department goals.
  • Serve as coordinator of facility trusty program. Complete initial program referral; consult with medical and security staff for placement into program. Conduct program orientation. Calculate and document trusty time in department computer system. Monitor program and inmate behavior through Sheriff's Office personnel.
  • Enter the general population living area to discuss programs, problem solving and maintenance of good order and discipline with inmates. Ensure that appropriate security precautions are followed when working with inmates.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Inmate Services.

Required Qualifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree In Criminal Justice or related Human Services field.

Experience Qualifications

  • 2 years Experience in criminal justice or related field.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables, in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to operate telephones, computer terminal, keyboard, photocopier, and printer/scanning instrumentation.

Licenses and Certifications

  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid Colorado driver’s license Required
  • The ability to speak and write a language other than English is a skill that enhances an employee’s ability to complete this job. The incidents that require the use of secondary language skill vary by day but are routinely frequent; it is expected that this skill will be used more than 11 times per month. The employee must be proficient in speaking and writing the second language to be eligible for the bilingual pay differential.
