About the role

Summary

The Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking compassionate and motivated candidates for a full-time faculty position as a Palliative Medicine Nurse Practitioner in the section of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. As a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive inpatient palliative care to people with serious illness, focusing on symptom management, communication, and support for patients and their families. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with physicians and nursing staff to provide exceptional coordinated care and participate in programs to expand palliative care knowledge and awareness. This position will be based at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center.

Job Duties

  • Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
  • Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
  • Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
  • Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
  • Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Required: Master’s degree in in Nursing.
  • Experience Required: Two to five years of acute care nursing experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Preferred Qualifications: Certified in palliative care. Previous work experience as a Nurse Practitioner in the acute and/or palliative care setting.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, effective communication skills, and strong ability to work closely with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
