About the Role:

As a Full-time Microbiology Faculty member, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in various delivery methods, ensuring student success through engagement both inside and outside the classroom. You will contribute to the College's strategic goals by supporting student retention, completion, and overall academic achievement. Your role will involve teaching, advising, and collaborating with the department and College on curriculum development, accreditation efforts, and community service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service Expectation

  • Demonstrate strong student advocacy and a positive, approachable attitude.
  • Identify and resolve student issues and concerns, going beyond surface solutions to understand root causes.
  • Foster an environment that values and supports all students.

Instruction

  • Deliver engaging lessons using appropriate pedagogy and technology to support all learning styles.
  • Utilize Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) for teaching, assessments, and communication.
  • Develop and maintain course materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and assignments.
  • Keep accurate student records, including grades and attendance, while ensuring a safe and well-maintained classroom/lab environment.
  • Be willing to teach across various campuses (Lawrence, Plainfield, Downtown)
    • The position is based at the Lawrence campus but will transition to the Indianapolis campus in 2026.

Retention and Student Success

  • Monitor student performance and provide timely interventions such as tutoring and academic support.
  • Maintain office hours and engage with students to support their academic success in accordance with regional expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2).
  • Contribute to student recruitment and retention efforts, using technology and outreach initiatives.

Professional Development

  • Engage in professional development activities to stay current in your field and improve instructional techniques.
  • Participate in scholarly activities and stay updated on advancements in pedagogy and technology.
  • Continuously develop knowledge in microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, and other relevant fields.

Community Service

  • Participate in community outreach activities that help advance the College's relationships within its service area.
  • Attend and participate in student recognition ceremonies.

Institutional Support

  • Contribute to the College’s institutional goals by supporting curriculum development, accreditation, and committee activities.
  • Assist with college-wide activities such as commencement or department-specific events.

Advising

  • Provide academic advising during registration periods and as part of routine office hours.

Program Management

  • Support the Program Chair in activities related to program management and ensure smooth operation.

Other Functions

  • Assist in student recruitment and develop community/industry contacts.
  • Mentor adjunct faculty as needed.
  • Participate in any other duties related to the role as assigned.
