Public Finance Assistant Vice President

Summary
Generally a back-up to senior bankers on client relationships and/or municipal transactions. Handles execution specifics and performs analytical work on increasingly complicated transactions. Handles conference calls and contact with other financing team members including some direct client contact. Shows solid skills in document review and due diligence. Certain level of independent work on product ideas or proposals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Regularly initiate and juggle tasks relating to multiple transactions and marketing needs with limited supervision.
• Develop complex financial analyses for bond issuance including revenue models, amortizations, debt profiles and the analysis of refinancing and borrowing using Excel, Munex and DBC.
• Research clients to aid in the development of an optimal borrowing plan.
• Compose effective client pitch books and Requests for Proposals/Qualifications.
• Assist with and often lead all tasks and internal procedures related to completion of bond transactions.
• Review and comment on bond documents.
• Participate in conference calls and meetings relating to transactions and has direct client contact.
• Coordinate with attorneys and other professionals to complete bond transactions.
• Attend client meetings and conferences to help develop and maintain client relationships.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Some travel by car and/or air in conjunction with local, regional and/or national travel, up to 30%.
Qualifications
• Ability to read and understand annual financial reports of municipalities, states, school districts and special districts.
• Strong understanding of the fundamental finance concepts, practices and procedures used in the municipal securities industry.
• Strong understanding and skill in quantitative financial analysis and data modeling.
• Advanced Excel capabilities.
• Good interpersonal interaction and able to work well with others. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships in office groups as well as outside.
• Proven ability to prioritize competing priorities; work under stress created by time deadlines and work volume fluctuations.
• Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Works independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment; manages priorities, deadlines and tasks in order to meet deadlines and accomplish goals.
• Solid analytical skills – uses logic and reasoning to identify complex problems; review related information and develop options and recommend solutions to senior banker.
• Problem Sensitivity – The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It may or may not involve actually solving the problem.
• Must be a self-starter, independent worker and able to multi-task.
Education and Experience
• Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record
• Minimum Required: 4-5+ years investment banking experience
Licenses and Credentials
• Minimum Required: Series 63, 52, and 50 (or 7 if grandfathered)
Systems and Technology
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Ability to use financial databases including EMMA, Bloomberg, TM3, and Securities Data
• DBC and other bond sizing software
