About the role

Position Description

 

Serco is seeking a Principal Simulation Technician to join our team supporting the Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Mission Training Complex (MTC) in Washington. In this role, you will provide critical simulation environment and mission command stimulation support for military training exercises, ensuring operational excellence through expert systems management and problem-solving.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide training units with simulation environments that fulfill exercise planning document requirements.
  • Leverage technical expertise in simulation systems and federation guidelines.
  • Independently install and configure hardware, software, and networks on physical or virtual systems running Microsoft Windows and RedHat Linux.
  • Evaluate system errors, author detailed problem tickets, and follow Information Assurance (IA) protocols.
  • Maintain DoD security technical implementation guides (STIGs) and ensure system backups and user account management are completed.
  • Act as shift lead and provide mentorship to junior analysts.
  • Serve as acting team lead in the absence of the Lead.
  • Maintain proficiency in current and future simulation operating software and hardware fielded to the Mission Training Complex.

Qualifications

  • One of the following:
    • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 9 years of experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, and/or Information Assurance.
    • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the same fields.
    • Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Meet DoD 8570.01-M Baseline Computing Environment (CE) Certification Requirements at Information Assurance Technical Level II (IAT II) or equivalent.
  • Able to meet DoD computing environment training within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience as a federation manager of High-Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) training federations.
  • Minimum five years of experience with Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability (JLCCTC) systems.
  • Active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
  • Ability to work independently, support 24/7 operations during exercises, and lift equipment up to 50 pounds.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead junior staff.
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities.
  • Capability to work flexible hours and extended shifts during critical training events.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience planning simulation architectures and integrating Army Mission Command Systems.
  • Extensive experience with JLCCTC in support of Corps and below level events.
  • Certification in Linux OS (e.g., CompTIA Linux+, Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator, or Redhat Certified Systems Administrator).
  • Experience with VMWare installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate certification in Windows 10 and/or Server 2012.
