Job Description
The Data & Analytics (D&A) Intern will support the design, development, and implementation of a metadata management database that improves how metadata is created, stored, managed, and leveraged across the organization. This internship is ideal for students interested in data engineering, database design, or data science and provides hands-on exposure to modern data technologies, clinical research data standards, and enterprise metadata practices. The intern will work closely with the Clinical Data Standards and Data & Analytics teams to build scalable, user-focused solutions that support data-driven decision-making. By the end of the internship the intern will:
Develop practical, hands-on experience with databases, data modeling, and metadata management.
Gain exposure to clinical research environments and industry data standards.
Learn how to gather user needs and design user-focused data solutions.
Strengthen skills in collaborative development, technical communication, and documentation.
Build confidence working on real-world data engineering and analytics initiatives within an enterprise setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the design and development of a metadata repository database, including logical and physical data models.
Build or contribute to a working prototype that supports metadata storage, browsing, and updates.
Develop a user interface that enables intuitive metadata exploration and maintenance.
Create automation scripts to extract metadata from selected source systems and integrate it into the repository.
Document metadata structures, workflows, data lineage, and usage patterns.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather user requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Prepare and deliver a final presentation demonstrating system capabilities, design decisions, and lessons learned.
Minimum:
Undergraduate or graduate student graduating in the next 12-18 months pursuing a degree in computer science, data science, data engineering, information systems, or related fields.
