Research ExemptJob Description
The part-time research position focuses on analyzing infant gut microbiome samples (shotgun metagenomics and metabolomics) and integrating these data with human genomic, environmental (pre- and post-natal), cognitive, behavioral, and nutritional datasets. The researcher will play a key role in managing the lab’s data and analyses, contributing to grant writing, and preparing scientific presentations. The primary project investigates how gut microbiomes mediate the relationship between environmental exposures and child development in a large, longitudinal, and well-characterized pediatric cohort in South Africa. In addition to these responsibilities, the researcher is encouraged to develop independent research directions aligned with the project.

Basic Qualifications
In addition to having a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field, requirements for the position are:
Experience with analysis of amplicon and shotgun metagenomics datasets
Proficiency in programming for biological data analysis (julia, python, R)
Strong writing and communication skills
Additional desired qualifications:
Experience with version control for code (e.g., git) and data
Knowledge in database management of structured and unstructured data
Experience in network analysis
Experience in machine learning
Self-motivated and able to work in a team with minimal supervision
The researcher should have supervisory experience, good organizational skills
Salary:
The pay range for the role is $39,000 - $46,800.
