GENERAL PURPOSE

  • Work with suppliers, Color, Materials, and Finishes group, options, and operations to ensure color and appearance of finishes meets design intent.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Use test equipment (mil gauges, gloss meters, spectrophotometers) and computer programs to measure and document appearance properties of materials (primarily powder coat).  
  • Visually evaluate appearance of samples to approve or reject production batch samples.
  • Develop new colors with suppliers.
  • Provide direction and technical assistance to vendors. 
  • Maintain calibration references on production floor and lab. 
  • Enter related information into databases to release new powders into production system.
  • Create and manage HMI metal masters also approve touch up.
  • Maintain calibration of all light booths used for appearance evaluation.
  • Develop methods and systems for evaluating light sources including LEDs. 
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Additional Essential Functions

  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Must be able to navigate in computer software and use hands on test devices.
  • baUse color software and color measuring instruments.
  • Measure, approve, label, catalog, calibration schedule, Baan and Lotus notes maintenance and distribute a new color.
  • Create digital targets, download different software formats, perform digital master calibrations.
  • Initiate touch up match, create workflow and notification, evaluate submittal, enter approved touch up in HMI system and complete notification.
  • Ensure ISO NIST traceability on several tools and instruments.
  • Issue and track Purchase orders in Maximo ordering system.
  • Knows, practices and monitors quality requirements according to specified quality criteria and according to audit plan throughout the paint system and react accordingly.

Education/Experience Preferred

  • Associates degree or above highly preferred. 
  • Environmental consciousness. 
  • Document accuracy.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must pass Color Acuity test with a superior color discrimination score.  
  • Able to apply basic procedures and practices.
  • Able to work to deadlines and completion dates.
  • Able to manage own workload and be self motivated.
  • Team player skills.
  • Can work with little supervision once trained.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
  • Make environmentally sound decisions and work with cross functionally with safety team.
  • Microsoft office skills.
  • Ability to multitask.   

Additional Skills and Abilities

  • Powder or liquid paint experience is a plus but not required.
  • Willingness and ability to work with paint products.
  • Ability and desire to learn finishing technology.
  • Must be detail orientated to ensure accuracy.
  • Requires a team player with the ability to understand HMI values, goals and objectives as well as key financial drivers, e.g., EVA (Economic Value Added).
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage own workload.
  • Good listening, writing and verbal communications skills with the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical audiences.
