Position Summary

This position supports the university’s financial accounting department, with a focus area specializing in fixed asset and capital projects accounting; includes providing leadership and guidance on special projects and initiatives.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accounting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis on capital project related activities. Includes:
    • Calculating and recording capitalized interest on construction projects, as well as internal fees charged on projects funded by external debt.
    • Calculating and recording monthly debt draws; includes preparation of draw requests sent to bond trustees. Ensure compliance with external debt funding requirements and regulations.
    • Analysis and reporting on related data; presenting and summarizing data in a variety of ways. Requires cross-functional communication and collaboration with the Treasury Office and General Accounting, as well as various areas with capital project management responsibilities.
    • Accounting and reporting related to FASB ASC 410-20 (relates to conditional asset retirement obligations related to the remediation of hazardous materials).
  • Accounting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis for repair and renovation construction projects. Includes calculating annual required contributions by building and occupancy and processing reserve transfer and processing monthly funding transfers based on project spending. Also includes reporting and analysis on repair and renovation reserve activities.  
  • Develops or/or enhances documentation and processes; identifies and implements efficiencies; make recommendations for enhanced reporting and delivery of relevant data to leadership across the university.
  • Responsible for all capital project funding activities within Workday’s capital project functional area. This includes creating and maintaining funding sources; ensuring appropriate funding approvals have been received; reporting upon over spent projects. Through training and hands-on experience becomes a subject matter expect over Workday functionality; develops or/or enhances documentation and processes; identifies and implements efficiencies.
  • Handles special requests and projects involving complex accounting transactions and concepts across financial systems; identify, gather, assess, and analyze data used for making decisions and make decisions where appropriate, includes working with historical cost to provide projections as needed; incorporate data and ideas into either formal or informal reports, presenting resolution to issues or problems; learn/stay engaged in utilizing the advances in financial systems to ensure effective and efficient delivery of information.
  • Handles special requests and projects are frequently cross-functional in nature and require cross-functional learning and collaboration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
