Position Summary

This Advanced Solutions Architect position is part of the lottery division software engineering team at Scientific Games.  Your work on this team will help enable the funding of good causes like education, health care, senior citizens, roads, bridges, state parks and trails as well as the environment.

Joining this team, you will be among peers in professional engineering that report up in small groups to a Director of Software Engineering / Software Development Manager.  You will find these teams are made up of career minded professionals that have chosen to be in the lottery industry. 

In addition to the good causes lottery’s fund, lottery in general has proven to perform well through recessions. 

As an Advanced Solutions Architect, you will need to be able to work both independently and as part of a team that works on complex systems with engineering challenges.    It is key that you can work with others, learn from, and educate others.  You should be someone the engineering teams seek out for review and input on their designs.

This position requires you to step back and get the “big picture”.   Our software has become a complex ecosystem, with both legacy and modern parts.   Most teams understand their part, this position requires you to envision how all those parts work together.   Interacting with your engineering peers, you will have to help them understand the solution.   There will be times you need to roll up your sleeves, review, design and code.   System diagramming is a must.

The vision for the day to day for this position will be to design, version, implement our interface points between systems.  You will work on improving the common logging, testability, configuration approach.  Part of the day to day will also be an educator of other engineers in the approach to keeping things decoupled, secure and on documented versions of APIs.

Job Duties / Key Accountabilities

  • Communication skills are a key to this position as you will need to work with many teams
  • Establish and document interfaces that are expandable
  • Design, Code and debug source code. 
  • Design and create automation around unit testing.
  • Given requirements, document, suggest and design solutions.
  • Participate in the requirements gathering phase of development projects.
  • Participate in code reviews as needed. 
  • Occasionally participate in the support of production lottery systems when issues arise as an engineering expert. 
  • The position can have up to travel 15% or less. 
  • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Qualifications / Skills / Knowledge

    Required

    • BS in Computer Science (or acceptable equivalent)
    • 10+ years programming experience, preferably on web service creation and interface management.
    • 10+ years professional programming experience.
    • 10+ years of experience troubleshooting cross system production problems
    • 5+ years of experience in systems implementations/integration
    • 5+ years of experience with tools that test either soap or restful services
    • 5+ years of experience with common logging and log gathering approaches/tools
    • 5+ years of experience with database server interfacing

    Desired

    • Active Directory, Single Sign on knowledge
    • Linux general knowledge
    • C / C++ some experience
    • T-SQL is a plus (and or other SQL flavors)
    • Java (springboot/quarkis) is a plus
    • Lottery industry experience a big plus
    • A self-starter who strives to produce high quality work.
