About the role

Position Summary

Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

Tangentyere Indigenous Case Management Service (ICMS) is part of the Social Services Division, which aims to improve the quality of life of Central Australian Aboriginal people and the wider community through providing innovative, responsive, and culturally appropriate services.

This position will provide face-to-face services to clients wishing to access Tangentyere ID card services, Emergency Relief, Return to Country and referrals to services offered by Tangentyere Council as well as referrals to external providers.

The successful candidate will have experience in providing customer service, have a calm and friendly approach, have a background in administration, be able to juggle a variety of tasks, answer telephone, email and customer queries and be willing to learn. Local community members are strongly encouraged to apply.

As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.

Responsibilities

• Undertake Tangentyere ID card, Birth Certificate, Emergency Relief and Return to Country activities.

• Ensure database notes are accurately maintained for all ICMS activities undertaken.

• Maintain a high level of client and organisational confidentiality.

• Ensure all individuals who come to the front desk of ER/ID are given appropriate information and referred to the appropriate personnel as needed.

• Process client payment deductions and meet reporting guidelines for relevant ICMS services.

• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.

• Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

• Experience, knowledge, and commitment to working with vulnerable people particularly those experiencing hardship.

• Ability to undertake support activities, including:

o The ability to establish and maintain appropriate relationships with clients and services.

o A good knowledge of community resources and agencies that provide appropriate support so appropriate information can be provided to clients.

o Experience in maintaining client files and other service records, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality and integrity of data and information.

• A strong work ethic, high attention to detail and overall positive outlook.

• Sound computer literacy and an ability to use multiple database applications.

• Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired

• Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.

• An understanding of Aboriginal culture as well as a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Australian Aboriginal people.

• Ability to understand or speak one or more Aboriginal languages.

• Willing to undertake Cert III Business Administration (or equivalent) training.
