JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Adjunct Research Professor Position in Computational Analyses of Cryo-EM Data
One part-time (50%) adjunct research professor position is available in the Jiang lab at Penn State University in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. The lab is located in the Millennium Complex of Sciences with state-of-the-art instruments for cryo-EM, including Titan Krios and Talos Arctica TEMs with energy filters and direct electron detectors for single-particle cryoEM and cryo-ET, and a Hydra FIB-SEM currently being installed for in situ structural studies of cellular and tissue sections. The lab has multiple GPU workstations and access to the university computing center.
This candidate will join an interdisciplinary team and work on computational problems in cryo-EM structural studies of amyloids in neurodegenerative diseases, virus/host interactions, and protein complexes relevant to cancers using single-particle cryoEM and cryo-ET. The candidate will apply newly published computational methods and develop new algorithms and programs to improve existing methods or solve new problems. The candidate will also assist the PI in supervising junior members of the lab.
A Ph.D. in computer, data science, math, statistics, physics, or a related field is required by the appointment date.
The ideal candidate should have:
Highly self-motivated and passionate about advancing cryo-EM computational methods for structural studies
Ideally, prior experience in developing computational algorithms and programs for cryo-EM image processing/3D reconstruction, but relevant experiences in computations will also be considered
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent communication and writing skills
Applications must be submitted electronically and include your CV, and a cover letter describing your research experiences, interests, and career goals. Contact information for three references should be provided.
