Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Anatomical Sciences (Tenure-Track)
Stony Brook UniversityAbout the role
Description
The Department of Anatomical Sciences at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the areas of evolutionary neuroanatomy, comparative neuroscience, brain evolution, and/or sensory adaptations in vertebrates. We seek a research-active candidate who demonstrates clear potential to develop an internationally recognized, innovative, and externally funded research program. The ideal candidate would complement current departmental strengths in advanced imaging, comparative vertebrate morphology, and exploring the processes that shape organismal phenotypic evolution. This could be through the use of comparative neuroimaging (e.g., CT, PET, fMRI), neurohistology, or brain evolutionary-development work in model or (ideally) non-model organisms.
The Department of Anatomical Sciences has a tradition of interdisciplinary and interdepartmental research. We seek a candidate with the potential to continue, and build upon, this tradition. Ongoing evolutionary biological research at Stony Brook University includes faculty in the departments of Anatomical Sciences, Ecology and Evolution, and Anthropology, as well as the Turkana Basin Institute. The Renaissance School of Medicine houses the Neuroscience Institute, whose mission is to enhance and facilitate institutional contributions to research and education with a focus on the nervous system: the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscle. The successful candidate will be expected to teach human gross anatomy as well as contribute to graduate-level courses relevant to training and mentoring graduate students. Details of the department's areas of research emphasis and current facilities may be found at https://renaissance.stonybrookmedicine.edu/anatomy.
