Team Introduction
SDN team builds cross-layer intelligence that enable hyper-scale datacenter interconnection. The team is responsible for developing network analytics including monitoring and troubleshooting tools, traffic control and bandwidth management systems, network emulation and verification models and tools, and network security risk detection and mitigation mechanisms that empower highly available, secure and scalable datacenter network infrastructure.

We are looking for talented individuals to join us for an internship in 2024. Internships at TikTok aim to offer students industry exposure and hands-on experience. Turn your ambitions into reality as your inspiration brings infinite opportunities at TikTok.

Internships at TikTok aim to provide students with hands-on experience in developing fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths. A vibrant blend of social events and enriching development workshops will be available for you to explore. Here, you will utilize your knowledge in real-world scenarios while laying a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. This Internship Program runs for 12 weeks beginning in May/June 2024. Successful candidates must be able to commit to one of the following summer internship cycles below:

1.May 20, 2024 to August 9, 2024
2.May 27, 2024 to August 16, 2024
3.June 10, 2024 to August 30, 2024

We will prioritize candidates who are able to commit to these start dates. Please state your availability clearly in your resume (Start date, End date).

Online Assessment
Candidates who pass resume evaluation will be invited to participate in TikTok's technical online assessment in HackerRank.

Responsibilities:
This internship provides students the opportunity to join one of our engineering teams where you will have the opportunity to:
• Improve data center network availability and efficiency through software development
• Develop network monitoring infrastructure, and optimize the data collection, processing and visualization pipeline
• Develop network troubleshooting and mitigation tools to reduce incident response time and improve availability
• Develop SDN software control system to automate scheduling and management of network resources
• Develop network emulation platforms and verification tools to improve safety of network operations
• Collaborate with network operation and maintenance team members to support other infrastructure services including but not limited to compute and storage on troubleshooting, resource deployment optimization, etc

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a PhD in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Able to commit to working for 12 weeks during Summer or Fall 2024
• Familiar with common network protocols, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, etc., and basic Linux network protocol stacks and tools
• Proficiency in using one or several mainstream programming languages C++, Python, Go, Java
• Quick learning and adaptability; perseverance and spirit of studying technical details; good at communication and exchange
• Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications
• Graduating December 2024 onwards with intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship.
• Demonstrated software engineering experience from previous internship, work experience, coding competitions, or publications
• High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving capabilities
