Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Assistant Superintendent 1 for Sahara Woods Recreational Area. This position will maintain and provide upkeep for OHV trails and OHV facilities, issue, and remit camping permits, assist in daily registration and sign in of OHV park visitors, and provide input on budgetary recommendations. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize their supervisory experience, maintenance experience, attention to detail and communication skills. Sahara Woods is made up of vacated strip mine land and encompasses approximately 4000 acres. Sahara Lake and numerous strip cuts make up approximately 270 acres of fishable water. Essential Functions
- Serves as working supervisor
- Participates in site maintenance activities such as building repairs, vehicle and equipment maintenance, minor construction, minor electrical and plumbing repairs
- Provides office support by preparing and maintaining a variety of records and reports
- Advises site visitors of site rules and regulations
- Assists the Site Superintendent in the preparation of annual and seasonal plans of work
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree with courses in public administration, park and recreation administration, natural resource administration or a related field.
- Requires one year of related functional supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of working knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resource conservation, structural and grounds maintenance, public relations, personnel administration, and fiscal management
- Two (2) years of experience in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of the duties and responsibilities.
- One (1) year of experience assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of subordinate employees

1. Requires ability to pass a background check.
2. Valid driver's license.
3. Ability to obtain pesticide and or herbicide operator's license within 6 months employment.
4. Ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
5. Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
6. Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
7. Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
8. Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
