Endicott College is searching for an Assistant Professor to teach both lecture and laboratory courses in the Biology & Biotechnology program, and potentially the Master of Science in Bioinformatics program. The candidate must be able to teach Biochemistry lecture and laboratory, in addition to other course that may include genetics; cell & molecular biology; chemistry; senior research/thesis. The individual will also advise students; participate in accreditation and assessment processes; engage in professional development; and participate in school and college-wide service, and be engaged in professional scholarship or development.
The Judge Science Center research facilities include a full cell culture and microscopy suite (fluorescence, DIC, and phase contrast optics), a genomics suite including illumina MiSeq and NextSeq 500 instruments for next-generation DNA sequencing, Shimadzu HPLC and MALDI-8020 linear MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer, and makerspace with 3D printers.
This position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Endicott College Faculty Association (ECFA) and Endicott College. ECFA is a faculty union organized under the NEA (National Educational Association) and provides structure and support for all full-time faculty at Endicott College.
Job Description and Responsibilities
The position requires the individual to effectively teach lecture and laboratory courses in Biochemistry, and additional courses in the Biology & Biotechnology curriculum. The minimum workload is the equivalent of four 3-credit courses (12 contact hours) each semester (Fall and Spring), in person, but may be a maximum of 28 contact hours total across the two semesters when labs are included. There is also the potential to teach in the Master of Science in Bioinformatics program.
Advise up to 25 students.
Attend department, school, and college meetings.
Participates in accreditation and assessment processes.
Engage in professional development. Professional development is expected in terms of reflecting upon and improving teaching, including integrating innovative teaching methods into classes and laboratories, working with other faculty who are teaching these courses.
Engage in professional development, scholarship, research, and/or publishing. In addition to professional development, active scholarship in the individual’s specialty field and/or pedagogy that will expand and complement existing strengths in the School of Science & Technology, and involve students and collaborations with faculty.
Assist in curriculum development.
Participates in department, school, and college service.
Maintain and post regular office hours.
Perform other duties as required and as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Endicott College Faculty Association (ECFA) and Endicott College.
Requirements/Qualifications
Doctorate in any area related to Biology, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry or related fields.
Have a well-defined and innovative research agenda that compliments and expands the existing strengths of the School of Science & Technology.
College-level teaching experience, with evidence of innovative methodologies in the classroom and laboratory.
