Under the guidance of a Residence Director (RD), the Assistant Residence Director (ARD) will supervise an undergraduate Resident Assistant (RA) staff in order to foster a supportive environment within their residential area that promotes residential learning and a sense of belonging among students. This is a full-time, 10-month, live-in position. In addition to the day-to-day residential functions, ARDs also serve on the RD on-call rotation. The ARD’s campus housing assignment must be the ARD’s sole place of residence.

30%:  Residential Community Management

  • Oversee the occupancy management of assigned area, including the coordination of check-ins, check-outs, room changes, building condition reports (BCRs), room condition reports (RCRs), roommate agreements, fire, health, and safety inspections, and damage billing.

  • Serve as a resource for students and RA staff. Offer individual support to students, as well as implement broader initiatives that promote residential student learning and foster a sense of belonging.

30%:  Student Conduct and On-Call

  • Participate in the RD on-call rotation. Respond to psychological, medical, Title IX, and maintenance emergencies, and follow established college protocol. Additional on-call hours may be required for special events on short term notification, if deemed necessary.

  • Serve as a conduct hearing officer, addressing policy violations and behavioral concerns in the residence halls. Facilitate the resolution of student conflict, according to departmental protocol as determined by the Office of Community Standards.

20%:  Staff Supervision

  • Provide direct supervision, evaluation, and training of para-professional Resident Assistant staff.

20%:  Departmental Initiatives Support

  • Implement residential education initiatives including overseeing Living-Learning Communities, RA engagement programming, departmental signature programs, and collaborative initiatives.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

● Bachelor’s degree required and preference of candidates who are pursuing a Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field.

● Previous experience in Residence Life and/or Student Affairs highly recommended.
