Maintenance Specialist - Asphalt

This position is part of the Street Maintenance Asphalt Repair Division. This position maintains street infrastructure including, but not limited to such programs as snow and ice control operations, asphalt patching, pothole repair, speed hump installation, and bike path and parking lot overlays. This position may be called upon to assist with drainage maintenance, culvert installation and water/sewer breaks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Labors and operates loaders, dump trucks, snowplows, as well as other equipment for asphalt repair work, digging ditches, cleaning gulches, cleaning inlets, laying pipes, repairing pipes, grading roads etc.
Assists in repairing water and sewer breaks.
Performs other maintenance duties as needed, including laboring on various crews, cleaning equipment, yard work and office functions.
Plows and sands City streets during winter months.
Trains and instructs new employees.
Adjusts, inspects, cleans and performs minor maintenance on vehicular and non-vehicular equipment.
Cleans and maintains tools; cleans work and shop area.
Performs physically arduous work outdoors.
Logs daily work activities and inspection records of City facilities.
Follows prescribed safety measures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner.
Requires regular and prompt attendance.

Essential Qualifications

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
 
Experience:
One year experience in public works maintenance operations.
 
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Valid CDL Class B license with air brake endorsement.
Certified as skilled operator:
         Single axle dump trucks          
         Tandem axle dump trucks       
         Wheel loader                                                                                                           
         Snowplows                              
         Fork lifts
         Street sweeper operations
         Bobcat operations
         Roller                                          
 
Preferred Qualifications
Service on division, department or city-wide committees.
Completion of vocational or college-level courses.
Completion of supervisory training
Completion of training in interpersonal skills.
Completion of training in technical aspects of public works maintenance operations.

Demonstrated knowledge and skill to perform as a laborer and truck/loader operator on the following operations:
Pothole patching
Major street patching/paving
Snow and ice control

Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and supervisors

Post-offer physical examination is required
Proven progression as a Maintenance Specialist, with a minimum overall rating of successful at the last review period, based on the City of Lakewood Performance Review and Development System
