POSITION SUMMARY

The Computer Systems Engineer/Architect designs, integrates, and optimizes AF TENCAP’s multi-level secure information systems and communication architectures to meet current and future mission requirements. This role evaluates system performance, develops technical solutions, and ensures interoperability and compliance with DoD and Air Force policies. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the engineer/architect manages system architecture planning, lifecycle upgrades, and configuration control, while coordinating with leadership, cross-functional IT teams, and external partners. A strong focus on IT security, system accreditation, and mission readiness is essential to supporting AF TENCAP’s operational success.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Design, document, and implement system and network architectures that support AF TENCAP operations across unclassified, secret, and TS/SCI environments.
  • Develop technical solutions for Communication System Requirement Documents (CSRDs), ensuring compliance with AF and DoD standards.
  • Oversee systems integration, lifecycle planning, and configuration management to maintain mission readiness and scalability.
  • Conduct engineering assessments to identify performance shortfalls, recommend solutions, and optimize existing architectures.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of technical drawings, schematics, and Communication and Information Systems Installation Records (CSIRs).
  • Coordinate with internal teams, leadership, and external agencies to integrate new capabilities and ensure interoperability.
  • Support accreditation activities by ensuring system designs meet all cybersecurity and risk management framework (RMF) requirements.
  • Advise leadership on emerging technologies, architecture enhancements, and cost-effective integration strategies.
  • Facilitate system upgrades, ensuring minimal operational impact while meeting mission timelines and budget constraints.
  • Educate and consult with stakeholders on system design concepts, operational capabilities, and security considerations.
  • Maintain IT security vigilance throughout the system design and implementation lifecycle, ensuring alignment with DoD 8570.01-M and AF cybersecurity directives.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, proactively addressing engineering challenges and adapting designs to meet evolving mission priorities.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related field.
  • Hold and maintain an 8570 IAT II compliant certification (Sec+).

EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years of computer systems engineering experience
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical system documentation and schematics.
  • Experience with PowerBI, PowerAutomate, and MS Teams for system documentation and planning.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency with DoD communications infrastructure, CSRDs, and AF network protocols.
  • Working knowledge of AFI 17-130 and related security and design frameworks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and/or squat.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks or motions for prolonged periods.
  • Must have sufficient physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina to complete various tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This is an Onsite position that requires work to be performed onsite at a customer location.
  • Working indoors in an office or home office environment.
