About the role

Position Description

Serco is seeking a Principal Operations in the Information Environment (OIE) / Fires and Effects Analyst Trainer to join our growing team of diverse professionals supporting the Joint Staff J7, Joint Training, Deployable Training Division (DTD) at Suffolk, Virginia. This position is contingent upon contract award, budget, and customer approval.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as a subject matter expert and trainer for OIE in joint, multinational, interagency, and globally integrated exercises and operations.
  • Integrate into, contribute to, and provide functional continuity in the DTD’s Fires and Effects Section.
  • Mentor, train, and support new Observer Trainers (OTs).
  • Participate as a member of Deployable Training Teams (DTTs) observing, training, and providing feedback to commanders and their staffs.
  • Ascertain key command challenges at the operational and strategic levels and conduct cross-functional analysis.
  • Understand strategic thought and direction related to campaign, deliberate, and crisis planning at the operational level.
  • Research national strategic documents, exercise documents, real-world operations, and interagency and coalition policies and plans.
  • Conduct trend analysis, understand and improve battle rhythms, provide training, and develop feedback.
  • Develop the Commander’s Facilitated After-Action Review (FAAR), Executive Summary Report (ESR), Combined Functional Report (CFR), Internal After Action Review (IAAR), and contribute to the Joint Lessons Learned Information System (JLLIS).
  • Update and maintain documents and articles such as "Joint Operations Insights and Best Practices."
  • Develop and facilitate seminars for the National Defense University’s Senior Leader Education Program Joint Operations Modules (PINNACLE, CAPSTONE, and KEYSTONE).

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 years of professional and/or military leadership experience; or
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 4 years of professional and/or military leadership experience.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Graduation from Joint Forces Staff College or Service equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of OIE and experience in fires and effects at the operational level.
  • Active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance with ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Willingness to travel worldwide, including hazardous duty areas, up to 25% of the time.
  • Ability to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access).
  • Strong writing skills at a college level, with military writing style experience.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Experience at a Combatant Command, Joint Task Force, Division, Afloat staff, or Wing staff.
  • Understanding of staff support to command decision cycles.
  • Knowledge of the Joint Planning Process (JPP).
  • Experience preparing and conducting seminars or study groups for flag officers.
  • Ability to write and prepare operational orders and plans.
  • Experience compiling and presenting lessons learned and after-action reviews in both written and oral formats.
  • Experience with operational planning at the operational and strategic levels.
