Team Lead, Printing Press

Job Summary:

The 2nd Shift Team Lead – Printing Press will serve as a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing press operations during the second shift. This includes organizing workflows, ensuring timely production, maintaining safety and quality standards, and supporting team development. The role combines technical operation of the printing press with team coordination and problem-solving duties to ensure smooth and efficient production cycles.

Job Duties:

• Lead and coordinate the 2nd shift press team, assigning tasks based on the production schedule and team strengths.
• Act as the primary point of contact for shift-related questions, troubleshooting, and escalation of issues.
• Train new employees and provide continuous on-the-job coaching to ensure skill development and adherence to procedures.
• Monitor team performance, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, quality standards, and productivity targets.
• Read and execute work instructions accurately, verifying materials and supplies match job requirements.
• Set up printing presses for production runs, including installation of sleeves, inks, and other components.
• Test and adjust ink, varnish, and machine settings such as speed, tension, and pressure throughout production.
• Conduct regular inspections, perform preventative maintenance, and clean press equipment to ensure operational readiness.
• Accurately document production data and facilitate smooth shift transitions through clear communication.
• All other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

• Able to lift up to 70 lbs
• On feet for the full 8 hours
• Physical stamina and strength

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical degree a plus)
• Minimum 2 years of experience operating high-speed printing presses
• Prior leadership experience or demonstrated ability to lead a team

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Working knowledge of production procedures and measuring tools
• Effective communicator with solid teamwork and problem-solving abilities
• Organized, detail-oriented, and safety-minded
• Able to read instruction manuals and follow PM program
• Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools.
• Understanding of production procedures
• Conscientiously comply with company safety policies, operating procedures and practices and be alert for safety hazards and opportunities to practices
