In the Ford Driver Assistance Technologies (DAT) program, Ford’s Safety Electronics team designs and develops hardware and functional models that provide best-in-class performance for features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, cross traffic alert, active park assist and 360 camera systems. The DAT Performance Processor team develops and delivers software for advanced features that make use of machine learning and artificial intelligence in support of features such as Blue Cruise, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist.

What you'll do…

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the ADAS Component Manager and Design & Release engineering teams:
    • FMA deliverables
    • Failure Mode Effects and Analysis
    • Fault Tree analysis
    • Packaging, sensor alignment, vibration mitigation
    • Electro-Magnetic Compatibility and mitigation
    • Moisture-ingress prevention 
    • Analytical methods
      • Including circuit analysis
      • Worst case circuit analysis
      • Electrical stress analysis
      • I/O modeling
      • Electrical and electronic component subsystems
      • Key life testing, EMC, etc.
    • Thermal management electronic control units
  • Ownership and governance of department electronic circuit design processes, common implementations standards and Electronic Circuit Design verification processes and documents 
  • Champion the technical design review process.  Provide the Technical voice at module and subsystem Design Reviews.
  • Provide consultation and lead efforts in resolving electronic design questions, issues, and concerns for Ford's global operations (including Technical Design Review support)
  •  Support launch sign-off process
  • Review suppliers' electronic manufacturing process 
  • Establish design guidelines for department system and subsystem applications.  Develop and maintain generic module product documentation (SDS, Module Checklist). 
  • Advise and work with engineers in developing Subsystem Design Specifications (SDS) and Engineering Specifications (ES) for appropriate technical content for body control system.
  • Assist engineers and suppliers in implementing technical methods to improve component reliability to resolve specific product concerns.
  • Support the development of subsystem architectures for department features / technologies and identify long lead program considerations.
  • Work with EESE’s other Electronic Hardware Design Technical Specialists to advance consistent and interlocking design requirements. 
  • Support of the engineering & supplier community through training, seminars, and mentoring
  • Assess competitive electronic technologies and work with Purchasing and Engineering to develop commodity strategies.
  • Bookshelf new technology for future product implementations.
  • Assess competitive electronic technologies from technical forums, universities professional organizations and suppliers to ensure Ford maintains technical leadership.

You'll have... 

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS or MS Electrical Engineering degree along with ten (10) or more years of direct experience with automotive electronic design.
  • Recognized expert in electronic design and with proven track record of robust implementations. 
  • Six (6) or more years’ experience in electronic circuit design and analysis, manufacturing. 
  • Safety, Driver Assistance or Chassis Electronics Hardware design experience preferred.
  • Recognized as a technical leader in the field of electronic design and analysis.
  • Technical Depth in the following areas:  1) E/ESE FMEAs, 2) E/ESE DVP&Rs 3) Circuit Analysis Tools     
  • Recognized expert with extensive experience in automotive sy
