Description
PUYALLUP TRIBAL HEALTH AUTHORITY, located in Tacoma Washington is seeking a full time (40 hrs/week) Medical Lab Technician (MLT) III The Medical Lab Technician will provide medical laboratory testing and analysis services utilizing professional level laboratory techniques.

ESSENTIAL MLT FUNCTIONS:
- Accurately performs routine and specialized laboratory tests and maintains accurate records of test processes and results, according to department guidelines.
- Accurately utilizes and is knowledgeable of medical lab science, materials, equipment, procedures and techniques.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate samples, cultures, and techniques to assure the highest level of quality control in testing.
- Efficiently and skillfully performs phlebotomy techniques to ensure sample integrity.
- Performs daily, weekly and/or monthly maintenance of laboratory, equipment and supplies and adheres to quality control procedures and standards.
- Works independently, is self-directed and is able to multitask efficiently to complete assigned work within established deadline.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF MLT III:
- Assists with training new employees and/or students in departmental processes, procedures, theoretical and operational functions and provides effective feedback on a daily, weekly or as needed basis.
- Uses independent judgment to evaluate, release and report patient results, as soon as reasonably possible, within the scope of established testing methods.
- Consult with physicians and other medical professionals when necessary.
- Order and inventory lab materials and supplies as requested.
- In the absence of the department supervisor, takes on a leadership role and serves as the primary point of contact for staff and vendors, and is a technical resource for the lab.
- Assists with scheduling and the daily work flow to ensure efficient operations of the lab.
- Acts as a primary resource for co-workers and assists them with problem solving, including but not limited to, instrument malfunctions and assay performance problems.
- Effectively works with other departments to coordinate training, sample processing and to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Assists with the review of laboratory reports, operational procedures, methods and quality control.
- Under the direction of the supervisor, ensures technical requirements are in compliance for regulatory agencies (CLIA, COLA, AAAHC).
- Participates in the development and implementation of new procedures, instrumentation, computer functionality, technical development and is responsible for other laboratory projects or functions as assigned.
- Evaluates QC on laboratory equipment, performs assay calibrations, trouble-shoots problems, malfunctions and recalls and notifies supervisor immediately when there is a problem.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Graduate of a NAACLS accredited Medical Lab Technician (MLT) program -OR- successful completion of a (50) week military MLT program
- Active WA State Medical Lab Technician certification
- Minimum (5) years’ medical lab experience performing moderate to high complexity testing
- Must apply for a Medical Assistant (MA) Phlebotomist certification with the State of WA within the first month of hire and obtain active status within (4) months
- Experience working with an electronic health record system
- Current BLS certification
- One year of recent supervisory experience preferred.
