Principal Software Engineering Manager

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to build a new team focused on building systems that defend Microsoft including data engineering, construction of training data sets, creation of new telemetry sources, building of knowledge graphs, and creation of agentic AI systems or new security-focused language models. This leader would be responsible for working together with applied researchers to understand and deliver the necessary engineering and data solutions. As a new team, this leader would also be responsible for hiring and establishing the necessary relationships and team charter given the focus areas above.

The Microsoft Security AI (Artificial Intellenge) Research team is responsible for defending Microsoft and our customers through applied AI innovation. Microsoft understands and learns from its own defensive expertise, including via teams like Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center (MSTIC), and has the opportunity to build a unique knowledge graph describing the relationship between risk, investigation, and response. This training data set, built over Microsoft’s complex digital estate, is a foundational component for improving language models, training and driving agentic frameworks, and replicating level investigation and response.

Responsibilities

• Designing and building a comprehensive knowledge graph that captures real-world risk to investigation actions to response decisions and outcomes.

• Authoring telemetry in products and services based upon observability gaps in investigation and response.

• Partner with applied researchers to implement agentic AI infrastructure and solutions.

• Partner with applied researchers to explore and train security-focused language models.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of people manager experience.
• 8+ years of engineering experience building and deploying products or services.

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
