General Summary
- The Bariatric Surgical Clinical Reviewer role entails data collection, abstraction, entry and analysis related to bariatric surgeries; as well as contributing to quality improvement initiatives and staff education. The MBS clinical reviewer works closely with the members of the metabolic and bariatric and general surgery departments to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects that may be identified.
Essential Duties
- Identify and include 100% of metabolic and bariatric patients in the MBSAQIP Registry.
- Performs clinical chart review and audits to identify process improvement opportunities.
- Perform quality assurance checks on abstracted data.
- Ensure timely submission of data to the registry.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, meetings and teleconferences.
- Assist in data compilation for audits and accreditation site visits.
- Serve as an educational resource on the MBSAQIP Registry for staff and other stakeholders.
- Manage accreditation criteria and ensure compliance with relevant guidelines.
- Collaborate with the bariatric program team to review and develop clinical guidelines.
- Interpret and present data collected during MBS committee meetings
- Educate staff on metabolic and bariatric surgery protocols.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor’s in Nursing preferred.
Work Experience
- Three (3) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse or LIcensed Practical Nurse in a hospital, clinic or medical facility. Quality improvement and patient safety knowledge is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology, and disease process is required
Certification/License
- Current RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact Licensure
Mental/Physical Requirements
- Considerable mental concentration for sustained periods of time with frequent interruptions. Light lifting (15 lbs.) required. Standing, sitting and walking required.
Working Conditions
- Typical office conditions with noise and distractions. Possible eye strain or other discomfort from constant use of computer screens.
