Description

This summer, Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) is offering the exciting opportunity for staff to experience summer at a beautiful lakefront camp property in Western Washington. Camp staff will live on-site at Camp St. Albans, at the base of the Olympic mountains on Lake Devereaux in Allyn, Washington. Camp staff will attend paid staff training.    


The Assistant Cook assists the Food Services Supervisor in providing nutritious, well-prepared meals to campers and staff during summer overnight camps. The Assistant Cook has the opportunity to participate in other aspects of camp life, including boating, swimming, arts & crafts, hikes and staff trips to locations around Washington. This position begins June 6th and lasts until August 20th.  

Requirements

Paid Summer Staff Training, including but not limited to:    

  • Mental Health First Aide Certification   
  • First Aide/CPR Certification (current or willingness to obtain via Girl Scouts)   
  • Living on camp during summer season (Optional)  
  • Food is provided during training and when camp is in session  

Essential Functions:  

  • Assist in the daily operations of the camp’s food service including preparing and cooking food as the menu indicates and ensuring safe storage of food and leftovers at proper temperatures.  
  • Ensure compliance with state & local health regulations and procedures and the policies and procedures of American Camp Association, Girl Scouts of the USA, and Girl Scouts of Western Washington.  
  • Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment including cleaning and maintaining all food preparation and storage areas and supervise the cleaning of prep, serving, and dining hall dishes.  
  • Coordinate schedule and job tasks with the Meal and Packout Manager and Kitchen Assistants.  
  • Assist with supervising and directing the work of the Kitchen Assistants. 

Qualifications  

  • Minimum age 21 years, preferred  
  • Must hold or be willing to attain Washington State Food Worker Card  
  • Experience in institutional or large food service setting  
  • Knowledge of standards of food preparation and serving, storage of food, and kitchen procedures  
  • Experience in supervision  
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification (training available at camp)  
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license (or ability to obtain one) and excellent driving record preferred.   
  • Satisfactory results from criminal background search.
