Description of Work

The Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) provides a full spectrum of psychological and comprehensive clinical services to offenders within a correctional setting. Work involves applying theory in the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders, providing individual and group counseling to offenders and serving as a liaison between correctional staff and offenders at Maury Correctional Institution.

The Licensed Mental Health Professional will provide direct psychological services to offenders with a range of emotional and behavioral issues from situational stressors to those with severe and persistent mental illness and personality disorders. Such services include mental health triage/screening, crisis intervention, mental health assessment and treatment planning, suicide/self-injury assessment and management and Restrictive Housing reviews and evaluations. The Licensed Mental Health Professional may also conduct risk assessments on offenders with a history of violent or sexual crimes and may be required to travel to other facilities to complete HUB-related duties, as clinically relevant and necessary for behavioral health system function as directed by the Human Services Program Manager II/III. Additional responsibilities include participating in the on-call rotation to provide after-hour/weekend coverage for the institution(s), participating in discharge planning for identified offenders and for those with appropriate licensure and training, administering, interpreting and summarizing psychological testing.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range:$52,592.00 – $92,036.00

  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychological, emotional, and interpersonal dynamics that contribute to distress and mental health diagnosis
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, screen and diagnose clients for appropriate treatment; formulate clear goal-oriented treatment plans, and document progress of client treatment
  • Considerable knowledge of population being served, available resources, governmental and private organizations, resources in the community, and the laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program.
