The EHS Specialist is responsible to ensure the company is adhering to local, state and federal regulations in Utah, as well as other legislative and statutory requirements while developing employee safety and environmental programs. This position will be onsite reporting to the site director in Ogden, UT.
Here's what we'd like you to do:
- Investigates injuries/illnesses, near-misses and environmental accidents.
- Assists with the development and implementation of EHS programs, policies, and procedures including emergency preparedness and fire protection, safety risks, safe working procedures.
- Provide industrial hygiene support, sampling and solutions as needed.
- Provide safety support and manage and administer institutional health and safety programs or services.
- Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and develop hazard control practices and programs.
- Monitor & inspect employees for compliance with PPE and other regulations.
- Assists with OSHA, EPA, DOT and compliance activities.
- Spend extensive amount of time on the plant floor determining compliance related concerns and corrective actions if necessary.
- Assists with the management of hazardous waste, including waste characterization, site inspections, and training.
- Assists with industrial hygiene related projects, including water and air sampling, indoor air quality assessment, surface wipe sampling, qualitative assessments, etc.
- Performs Environmental system compliance audits and tasks which include the following:
- DPCC/SPCC inspections.
- Air and Water Permit audits.
- Waste storage and accumulation area inspections.
- Waste logs, inventory and disposal.
- Chemical Storage/containment/spill equipment inspections.
- Pollution control equipment inspections.

- Assists with planning, safety inspection protocols, or sampling.
- Evaluates environmental test results/inspections and makes recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agency requirements/permits.
- Participates in all safety related activities, trainings and meetings.
- Performs above mentioned responsibilities safely, ethically and in compliance with all federal and state regulations.
- Participates in ISO implementation.
- Maintains a safe work environment.
- Stay informed of industry best practices providing input and leadership in development and roll-out of companywide policies and procedures.
- Ability to implement a strong safety culture in the plant.
- This role may require some off-shift and weekend availability if emergencies arise.
- Collaborate with Operational teams to implement the Health and Safety site plan and uphold the Safety Management System to meet local or Global Oatly regulatory standards.
- Execute the Environmental and Sustainability site plan while maintaining the Safety Management System.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to the Site Leadership Team and employees at all levels, ensuring the highest standards of safety and health and compliance with both legislation and Oatly’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Actively promote a schedule of preventative Environmental, Health, and Safety activities.
- Serve as a member of the emergency response team in the event of any serious environmental or safety incidents.
- To foster a culture of environmental sustainability and safety, ensuring that the US sites remains secure and welcoming place for both work and visits
- Develop and oversee the site's fire safety protocols, including the management of extinguishers and sprinklers as necessary.
- Engage with the broader SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) community forums, reporting incidents, identifying root causes, implementing resolutions, and sharing best practices.
