About the role

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following duties.  Additional essential functions may be identified by the organization and listed as such in the incumbent's performance appraisal elements.  Various tasks may be assigned under each essential function.  Those that are listed are examples of work/tasks but are not all-inclusive; they are examples only and may be amended or added to as needed by the organization.

  • Cleans aircraft exterior and interior including parts and subassemblies using a variety of cleaners, polishes, compounds, solvents, and other cleaning solutions.
  • Services aircraft including oil reservoirs, oxygen, and nitrogen; lubricates specified components using a grease gun and other methods; inflates tires; fuels and refuels aircraft.
  • Performs aircraft ground handling duties such as operating aircraft tow vehicles and repositioning aircraft to and from congested areas like an aircraft hangar, to aircraft ramp areas for customer launch and recovery and positioning aircraft in the hangar at the close of business.
  • Cleans hangar floor by operating industrial floor cleaning machinery; arranges equipment, stands, and other items in the hangar in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Assists Aircraft Mechanics in servicing, repairing, and overhauling aircraft and aircraft engines, performing any combination of the following duties:
  • Adjusts and replaces parts such as control cables, fuel tanks, spark plugs, tires, batteries, and filters, using mechanic's tools.
  • Removes inspection plates, cowling, engine covers, floorboards, and related items to provide access for inspection and repair, and replaces items when work is completed.
  • Disconnects instruments, ignition systems, and fuel and oil lines.
  • Assists in dismantling, repairing, overhauling, or replacing parts and assemblies such as engines, plumbing, and hydraulic systems, and aircraft structural sections.
  • Performs routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools, and supplies to the mechanic; lifting and holding materials in place during operation; cleaning work areas and machines, tools, and equipment.
  • May assist flight line mechanics in servicing and repairing aircraft prior to flight.
  • Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner following all company-established safety and environmental rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Able to work any assigned shift or schedule, including customer mission support outside normal duty hours and travel as required supporting mission requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The incumbent performs other job-related tasks as assigned and required; any duties/tasks included in the employee's performance evaluation elements are essential to that employee's position within the job classification. 

 

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Two to three years experience in aircraft servicing and/or maintenance as a helper desired.
  • Must have the mental and visual ability to read understand and interpret detailed technical publications and instructions.
  • Must demonstrate safe operation of aircraft ground support vehicles including tow vehicles, floor scrubbers, and Cushman.
  • May hold a valid Airframe, or Powerplant, or both certificates issued by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) but not required for this job. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

 Must be able to:

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Retain information and make decisions according to standard policies and procedures.
  • Obtain/maintain a DoD and/or DOJ Security Clearance as required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must maintain a valid US Passport and the appropriate vaccinations required for international travel.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 The employee works on the hangar floor the majority of the shift and is required to stand; walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb ladders or elevated stands.  The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms as well as push and pull items.  The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly.
