The National Systems Group serves as the technical advisor to the Intelligence Community and its mission partners involved in the collection and distribution of national and tactical intelligence, including electronics programs, advanced technologies, ground and communications, imagery programs, and systems engineering and launch.

Our National Intelligence Division, Special Projects Directorate is looking for a project engineer in the program office to help execute challenging, innovative, and multi-disciplinary efforts in support of critical acquisitions.  Our operating environment and project portfolio are perfect matches for people who are eager to learn new and innovative approaches to complex problems.  We offer opportunities for professional growth and mission impact that are generally unavailable in other programs.

With a focus on helping customers achieve mission impact, this position will interface with Aerospace and partner subject matter experts to insure successful technical and programmatic baselines throughout space and ground development cycles.  The role also requires familiarity with risk discovery, analysis, and management as well as all standard mission assurance practices for acquisition but in a highly challenging context.

This position requires 100% in person work in (Chantilly, VA or El Segundo, CA)

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Ensuring the successful development of innovative systems
  • Contributing to integrated product teams throughout the product development lifecycles
  • Adding unique perspectives to technical and programmatic challenges based on established states-of-the-art
  • Adding and helping manage the contributions of key scientific and engineering talent
  • Contributing to the tracking and independent assessment of diverse development activities at multiple locations

What You Need to be Successful 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science or mathematics or related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with DoD and/or IC systems design, manufacture, integration, and test
  • Desire to work in a collaborative on-site office environment with the customer.
  • Ability to support routine travel
  • Must have a current or active TS/SSBI/SCI security clearance issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain additional special accesses as needed.

In addition to the above, the Senior Project Engineer requires:

  • A minimum of 12 years of engineering experience.
  • Direct experience with DoD and/or IC systems design, manufacture, integration, and test with demonstrable results
  • Proven ability to collaborate with engineering resources to develop technical positions, provide risk assessments and formulate courses of action
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative on-site environment

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Master’s and/or PhD in Engineering, Science, Math, or related field.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with standards governing system design, development, manufacturing, integration & test.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment with government customers, contractor, FFRDC, and SETA personnel.
  • Prior experience and familiarity with DoD, Air Force, or Intelligence Community acquisitions and operations
  • Experience working in an engineering matrix organization.
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
