We are looking for a Data Center Technician to join Index Exchange. We have 12 data centers around the globe housing over 8,000 servers.  The primary focus of this role will be as a member of the team that installs and configures new machines as well as maintains existing machines and the networks for our 3 data centers located in the NYC Tri-State area.  You will be based out of our New York office.

About The Role:

We’re looking for a Data Center Technician to to build and run high scale, distributed and exceptionally reliable infrastructure. We are looking for an engineer who can work seamlessly across our Engineering teams to bring complex and challenging projects to fruition. You will help us continue to refine and mature our Systems Operations frameworks, tools, and processes.

Index’s scale spans the globe, our transactions happen 24x7 in our global data centers, and every second that passes millions of requests are evaluated across our exchange. In order to achieve our mission, global efficiency and reliability are absolutely key, as every millisecond quite literally counts in our business.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Clean: You maintain an impeccable level of cleanliness and organization.
  • Problem Solver: No problem too complex/simple for you to help solve - you can approach a problem from different angles and work with other Index employees collaboratively to get things done
  • Adaptable: You will work with other teams, often remotely, to identify and resolve issues quickly. You may also be traveling to data centers to assemble, configure and prepare new hardware as well as install, upgrade and maintain existing hardware
  • Configuration of machines: solid knowledge of Linux, Windows 10 and Apple Workstations 
  • Competency: In the repair and maintenance of server and workstation hardware

Here’s What You’ll be Doing:

  • Rack, cable and configure Linux-based servers and other network hardware (Cisco, Arista) 
  • Assist in the diagnosing, troubleshoot and escalate any problems internally and externally
  • Set standards of excellence for all data center operations
  • Maintain impeccable documentation around our data center configuration
  • Configuring workstations for new users and troubleshooting IT issues as needed

Here's What You Need:

  • Proven experience supporting the Data Centre equipment and/or infrastructure (Power, Space, Cooling, Equipment)
  • A solid understanding of network architecture and practices.  Familiarity with Cisco CLIs is a plus
  • Ability to evaluate all manufacturers’ specifications for equipment new/old in order to assign placement in the Data Centre
  • Quickly learn, adapt, and retain Data Centre and Client specific information
  • Keeping detailed records of all work activities, including changes in configurations or settings
