Advanced Energy United is a national industry association representing businesses that provide the full range of advanced energy and transportation solutions. Our team works to educate, advocate, and activate in decisionmaker venues across the country.

We advocate for public policies that enable competition and work alongside our member companies to create economic opportunity, lower consumer costs, and bolster energy reliability and resilience across the country. We work with decision makers at every level of government as well as regulators of energy markets to build progress toward a 100% clean energy future in the US.

If you’re an entrepreneurial, innovative, analytical and thoughtful person looking to make an impact in the clean energy space, United might be the perfect place for you to share your talents. Team members at United are given the trust and responsibility to make big things happen, and myriad opportunities to learn new skills, explore new issue areas, and work with a broad cross section of the clean energy community. Being a team member at United also means working with a talented and diverse group of people, some who bring decades of experience spanning advocacy, philanthropy, clean tech, government and more—and our collaborative approach means we get to learn from each other, expert and novice, every day. And while our organization is fully remote, we are proud of the people-focused culture we have built and the connectedness of our team.

We work on serious issues, take our mission seriously, but never take ourselves too seriously.

Position Description

Advanced Energy United seeks a proactive and detail-oriented Campaigns and Policy Principal to join our Counterspark 501(c)(4). This position combines a foundational knowledge of clean energy policy with strategic instincts and advocacy experience. The ideal candidate will have a background in policy analysis and issue advocacy, with a preference for those with clean energy, environment, or climate policy experience. This role will require sharp strategic instincts and a sense of the levers of power we can maneuver to build support for and advance legislation.

As an integral member of the Counterspark team, the Campaigns and Policy Principal will help to distill complex policy and legislation and translate it into advocacy and education materials for the general public. This position will work across our 20-state portfolio, helping state advocates create the necessary public support to advance clean energy legislation. The principal will have a heavy hand in crafting material for public consumption such as action alerts, social media posts, talking points, and print media content.

The Campaigns and Policy Principal will also help inform and help shape our advocacy and electoral efforts across our portfolio, identifying points of commonality across states and advocacy tactics to deploy accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Research assigned policies and technologies to help improve Counterspark's communications.
  • Work with state teams to identify legislative priorities and develop advocacy and communications materials in support of these priorities.
  • Monitor and summarize legislation relevant to Counterspark’s work.
  • Draft, review, and edit advocacy materials such as talking points, emails, ads, and website content.
  • Work with the Counterspark Managing Director and Digital Director to develop cohesive legislative campaigns across states and regions.
  • Monitor emerging policy and political trends to help inform Counterspark strategies and actions.
  • Compile and analyze key statistics relating to email, ad, and social media performance.
  • Support the Counterspark staff in executing a robust political and engagement strategy.
  • Help develop Counterspark’s electoral strategy and maintain general awareness of relevant electoral rules and regulations.
