GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises and participates in painting buildings, fixtures and various equipment; performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, work involves responsibility for assigning and supervising the painting of a variety of services. Work is checked through occasional inspection in progress and by the quality of work done.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Lays out, assigns, and supervises the work of skilled painters.
- Supervises the mixing and matching of paints and stains using the proper proportion of pigment, base and thinner.
- Personally performs skilled painting such as interiors and exteriors of buildings, walls, ceiling, floors and cabinets.
- Maintains inventory of painting supplies and equipment to insure proper care.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ADILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools and practices of the painting trade.
- Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Skill in the use and care of spray guns, paint brushes and other equipment of the painting trade.
- Skill in the mixing of paints and matching of colors.
- Ability to supervise and instruct skilled painters in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
- Ability to work at considerable heights.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Six years of full time paid work experience as a journey level painter.
WORKING HOURS: This position will work 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. This position is full-time. This position is non-exempt.
SALARY: The current starting hourly rate for this position is $40.54 per the Unit 5 contract.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- To be considered, all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the position as outlined on the Onondaga County Civil Service job specifications for this title.
- The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $102.50 to the candidate.
