Painter Crew Leader - School Service Center (2025-2026)

ABOUT OUR DISTRICT

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Supervises and participates in painting buildings, fixtures and various equipment; performs related work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, work involves responsibility for assigning and supervising the painting of a variety of services. Work is checked through occasional inspection in progress and by the quality of work done.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

• Lays out, assigns, and supervises the work of skilled painters.
• Supervises the mixing and matching of paints and stains using the proper proportion of pigment, base and thinner.
• Personally performs skilled painting such as interiors and exteriors of buildings, walls, ceiling, floors and cabinets.
• Maintains inventory of painting supplies and equipment to insure proper care.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ADILITIES

• Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools and practices of the painting trade.
• Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.
• Skill in the use and care of spray guns, paint brushes and other equipment of the painting trade.
• Skill in the mixing of paints and matching of colors.
• Ability to supervise and instruct skilled painters in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
• Ability to work at considerable heights.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Six years of full time paid work experience as a journey level painter.

WORKING HOURS: This position will work 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. This position is full-time. This position is non-exempt.

SALARY:   The current starting hourly rate for this position is $40.54 per the Unit 5 contract.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• To be considered, all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the position as outlined on the Onondaga County Civil Service job specifications for this title.
• The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $102.50 to the candidate.
