About the role:

We’re looking for a Technical Program Manager, Data to define and drive the execution strategy for AI data collection. This person will work closely with our Research and Engineering teams to identify our current and future AI data requirements, while also actively working to identify and work with vendors to fulfill these requirements. This Technical Program Manager, Data will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating and overseeing the intake and evaluation of datasets that feed our platforms. As the first hire of its kind at AssemblyAI, this person will collaboratively define the team goals and growth needs as we scale.

What You’ll Do:

  • Program and project execution
    • Drive data acquisition projects and programs through the product development lifecycle
    • Gather requirements from internal stakeholders, collaboratively propose solutions, and coordinate with internal and external resources on execution
    • Communicate project and program timelines, progress, risks, and dependencies
  • Data Sourcing
    • Work closely with our Research and Engineering teams to identify our current and future training & validation data requirements
    • Negotiate terms, conditions, and costs associated with acquiring datasets
    • Build and maintain relationships with data vendors and select customers to encourage continued collaboration
  • Data Management and Labeling
    • Oversee data collection, validation, and preprocessing to ensure it is fit for use
    • Supervise the data labeling process with internal or external resources as needed—ensuring accuracy and consistency
    • Manage, train, and evaluate labellers, providing feedback and ensuring high-quality annotations

What You’ll Need:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager, Data or equivalent role
  • 5+ years combined experience in Project Management or Technical roles
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML training data concepts, requirements & lifecycle
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Experience working closely with the business & internal engineering teams
  • Experience working with vendors and negotiating engagement terms
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Jira is a plus
  • Experience in a remote environment a plus
